Parenting-time log template

Record the everyday care, visits and exchanges that are easy to forget months later.

A parenting-time log is a dated record of your own observations. Use it for routine involvement as well as disagreements. A useful entry tells a reader what happened without requiring them to guess what you mean.

What to write in a custody journal

A fictional completed entry

September 8, 2026 · 3:15–5:30 p.m. · After-school care

Collected my child at the usual pickup point at 3:15 p.m. We completed the reading assignment and attended the scheduled dental appointment at 4:00 p.m. Returned to the agreed exchange point at 5:30 p.m. Kept the appointment confirmation and the exchange message with this entry.

This describes an activity and its context. It does not label either parent or make a claim about what the record proves.

Make regular notes easier to review

Keep dates consistent and mark approximate times as approximate. If you correct a mistake, make the correction clear instead of presenting a changed recollection as an original note. Keep children’s personal details private when sharing examples or asking for general feedback.

Evidence Locker lets you keep dated entries with attachments and create a PDF timeline. See the entry-to-PDF walkthrough or read about organizing child custody documentation. A journal is an organizational aid; an attorney can advise how records relate to your matter.
